Our client, an elderly woman recovering from bilateral leg fractures, was admitted to a hospital following surgery. Despite physician orders for physical therapy, she was never mobilized and was discharged to a residential care facility that could not meet her needs. While at the facility, she was left bedridden without proper hygiene, repositioning, or nutrition. She developed a large, infected Stage IV pressure wound and severe dehydration. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she was later hospitalized in critical condition. She died shortly thereafter. This case settled confidentially for $750,000.00.
